Be Part of a Virtual Choir
Sing; sing out loud. Be part of something that is bigger than yourself. Link up with other; form relationships based on sound. This is what 2000+ people have been doing of late, under the tutelage of Eric Whitacre.
Singing releases endorphins, the brain’s “feel good” chemicals. There’s a direct link between singing and feeling good.
So, why don’t more people sing – in groups, in choirs, in the shower, alone, in public. It seems there are barriers to singing and a big one shyness. Eric has overcome this by going virtual. It is the new way to sing – to sing out loud and in harmony with a whole lot of people you’ve never met.
There’s a study published in Australia in 2008 which indicates on average, choral singers are happier with life, even though they faced huge problems in their lives. Indeed, an earlier study shows that people in aged care facilities are happier if they participate in singing groups, even if only monthly.
So, what is stopping you? When you feel down, get out there and find a singing group. Doesn’t have to be a choir, can be a pop group or a group with a heavy metal . If you can’t get out and about, check out the link below (and the video above) and join a virtual choir.
Your mental health and your relationships may depend on it. To keep your love and your relationships alive may be just a matter of finding your own voice.
