How to Survive the First Year of Marriage

Before we even consider how to survive the first year of marriage there’s an even bigger hurdle to think about and that’s the honeymoon.

The honeymoon, especially a long honeymoon is so stressful. Picture this. The person you love and the one you have just dedicated your life to spend with is there in your face, on your honeymoon 24/7. If that’s your idea of romantic is isn’t mine. Time out! Space required! AAHH. So, if you can keep love alive for the first week, fortnight or month then you will cope with the first year of marriage.

According to one recent survey 63% of newly weds go through post nuptial blues. Well, that is understandable when you think about all the hype and money and emotion and planning that goes into one 12 hour period. Looking at it that way, it is inevitable that there will be wedding day blues!

So, don’t throw away the wedding memories – live with them and enjoy them together. Watch the video; do your photo album; write your thank you notes and come down gently and back to reality slowly.

And, start planning not only the first year of wedded bliss but the next stage of your life together. Keep it light; don’t get too serious. There’s plenty of time to get serious as you approach the bigger decisions in your marriage.

Remember, no one person can meet all your needs so don’t expect miracles from your partner. That’s too much pressure to put on one person and too much for one relationship to bear.

So, now you have my thoughts. Watch the video and leave your comments below.
